Film and sound collection highlights
To mark the UNESCO World Day for Audiovisual Heritage on 27 October, Jennifer Selby, one of our Film curators, published a blog post about the Memorial’s film and sound collection.
The post includes a link to a recording of Harold Arthur Freeman, as a crew member of HMAS Sydney during the First World War.
It also has film clips from Gallipoli in 1915, the Light Horse parading in Parramatta in 1940, footage filmed by a prisoner of the Japanese during the Second World War, the bombing of Darwin in 1942, a scene from Damien Parer’s Assault on Salamaua, 1943, 3 RAR in Korea, 3 RAR in 1968 during the Viet Cong Tet offensive, a Christmas message from Tim Fischer, Vietnam, 1968 and an excerpt from No Dramas, a documentary film made by Robert Nugent using footage taken in Iraq 2006.
This exhibition will be closing on 18 November 2009, so get in quick to see these striking and iconic works of art by one of Australia’s most acclaimed artists.
This exhibition opens on 3 December 2009.
It looks at the impact of war on relationships and the ways in which Australians incorporated affairs of the heart into their wartime lives. Take a sneak peek at some of the wedding dresses in our collection.
